David Schmeikal

David’s whole life has been a series of attempts at defining, refining and redefining who he is and why he is here. He’s a creator at heart who moved very cautiously through life. Never taking too many bold actions, fearing they might not go they way he’d hoped.

His curiosity got the better of him (as it does with many of us) and he gradually progressed forward. He moved from being anxious around people, cautious not to rock the boat too much and experiencing tremendous anxiety when being called to lead, to boldly stepping up on stage in front of crowds of people to perform his poetry or facilitate a conversation for what’s possible for the future.

His purpose is to have you be heard and understood for who you aspire to be in this world and to create the systems necessary to create empowered choice.

He asks questions and questions everything.

Shelley Rathie

After 20 years in the corporate sector, Shelley entered academia where she is an assistant professor in MRU’s Bissett School of Business.  Her lifelong love of learning and helping people become successful (her purpose) has found a true home.

Shelley is privileged to spend her days with Calgary’s future business leaders as they navigate this ever changing world we live in, and their place in it.

Each generation claims the world is different, and it has never been more apparent than with this current generation.  This 4th Industrial Revolution, with the high speed of change, the increasing complexity of information and the importance of relationship-building in an increasingly automated world,  makes understanding who we are and why we are alive a profound daunting task.  Shelley helps people seek the answers and she provides the confidence so they can let their light shine bright.

Laura Wikant

Laura has had a couple of careers, encompassing many jobs, over the course of her adult working life. However, for the past 26 years, she has worked in the mental health field. This past Spring, Laura left her job of almost 12 years because she felt that she was stagnating and had become more unhappy than happy with what she was doing. She left with the goal of figuring out what is next for her professionally. In the process, by looking back over her life and connecting the dots, Laura has identified her purpose: to improve the lives of people and of organizations . However, Laura is still working to figure out what she’ll do next, job-wise, that fits with her purpose.

Ravin Moorthy

Life has thrown me quite a few curveballs but I’ve learned that no matter what, you need to keep your eye’s on the ball and swing for the fences.
I am honoured to be a part of Canada’s energy industry and make my home in Calgary. My life journey has taken me all over the country and allowed
me many varied experiences. I’ve worked overseas, ran a national sports organization and also get to be a father and a husband.

I have lots of opinions and not afraid to share them as a regular contributor to the CBC both in Calgary and nationally. I am excited to be part of a Day on Purpose and hearing about other journey’s.
